Re-entry

As many of you already know, I’ve returned to the US for an undetermined time. It could be ten months; it could be ten years. I’m slowly getting back into the swing of things and finally getting out of vacation mode and into find-a-job mode. Interestingly, a former supervisor forwarded me a great job posting that I already applied for. On the most basic of levels, it focusing on fostering bi-cultural understanding between Indonesia and the US. Of course, there’s plenty of other things involved, and probably a desk as well. It also looks like it’ll be a quick hire as applications are due the 26th and they want someone to start on/about the 1st of September.

My other major fun has been stepping into the waters of car buyer. I’ve always been able to borrow a car for extended periods from family members in the past. This is no longer an option. I’m looking to buy something used and extremely good on gas. I’m not in it for looks and willing to spend around 5k all in. Any ideas out there? It’s tough to spend so much money, but if I’m going to be in the US and not in a big city, I’ll need a car to get from point A to point B. I’m sure to chronicle my folly.

The vacation had its ups and downs. The down of most of it was 20 hours on a plastic stool in the aisle of a bus from Viet Nam to Laos. I’d classify the rest as an up!

Back to my work of searching for work.

Hey T…good to hear how you’ve been since getting back home. Best luck with the job search. No doubts you’ll get a better one. I noticed you went to Pontianak, West Borneo, from the photo. I’ve been there once at noon; of course, I couldn’t see any shadow of mine.

No worries, Scott. I’m sure I’ll be making an appearance sometime soon. Need to get a job and earn some ducats before the wind blows the rest away. Thanks for getting all those photos up on Facebook. I’m having my negatives digitized as I type–from grade school through Peace Corps…
