A Bell Curve

Last week was the rousing grand opening of the English teacher resource center at the university. We had several kinks that dearly need to be ironed out for things to run smoothly, but I hope that the next workshops or trainings will keep them coming back.

The semester started this week yet my classes weren’t finalized as most of them are non-credit and off the books. Just some extra stuff for the students who are motivated to come for the next 15 weeks. We’ll see what I can work out. Otherwise, I’m putting together more workshops and drumming up more ‘business’ for the center.

In better news today, Safir (or Afir, or Musafir), my trusty house overseer/teacher center staff found out today that he’s been awarded a scholarship to study in Australia. It will entail a six-month English course in Bali as well as another IELTS test before he can actually matriculate in Australia. The bad thing is: he’s got to leave for Bali in mid-April and another student or two will have to learn the ropes that he created. He’s also started blogging and is in my blogroll. He writes mostly in Indonesian, but he is now hooked. Have yourself a look.

The flood waters in Jakarta seemed to have retreated. Makassar was not inundated at all during the same time. Of course, there are always other rains to be concerned with.

I did have other things I wanted to say but can’t remember them at this moment.
