Dampness

The rains have hit Jakarta so much that it put the nation’s telecommunications onto a diesel generator! One newspaper said that 40,000 were now homeless due to the rains while another puts it at 100,000. Fuzzy math, anyone? Internet is routed through Jakarta, so I was down yesterday and still can’t access my primary email. All in due time. It’s raining in Makassar as well but not so much that the the streets are covered. We’ve been lucky. The mobile network is haywire as well. I’m getting and sending multiple text messages without that intent. I’m getting text messages that were sent yesterday.

After all that, I’m going to celebrate Gong Xi Fa Cai with a beer and a slice of chocolate cake. Next week will be a proving ground as VIPs descend upon this fair city and take a stab at promoting communication and sharing in the education sector.

Update: BBC Online is calling it 190,000 homeless in Jakarta and nine dead.

So do you have to show things off to any VIPs? Good luck!
Apropos of nothing this blog shows up in my RSS reader as ‘A Wild Rog..’ which I always interpret as ‘A Wild Rogering’.
I’m back to Sulut end of this month - are you going to be up there?

We have plenty of things to show off to the VIPs–books, training space, teaching resources, a very helpful and knowledgable staff.

As for the rogering part, well, I’m keeping this blog clean. I’m planning on heading up to Sulut sometime before my contract ends. At least once… I won’t flake out this time.
