Another demonstration took place in front of the university today. There were about five young men standing in the middle of the road with a bullhorn and some placards. The cars went slowly by them; slow being the only speed in rush hour traffic. I questioned a few students about the reason for the demonstration. Most didn’t even know there was one going on; the others didn’t think five guys in the street was a demonstration.
Classes started full-bore today. That didn’t mean much for me as I’ve yet to get the schedule for the classes I agreed to teach. I did half-expect them to tell me I had three of them today. Fortunately that didn’t happen. I moved my books back into the classroom in the library that I get to use (A/C included) and thought about what other things needed to get done (buy a whiteboard and trash bin with money left over from the small materials allowance I was given). The final schedule will look something like four classes of pre-service English teachers and two classes of elementary level first-year English language classes. This leaves me with a total of two preps for the week since the pre-service teachers will be getting the same thing. Phew.
Now, I’m at home, cranking through the megabytes on my DSL package, and trying to put together a submission for the national EFL conference. I’ve got until the 30th, so I should make it just under the wire.

It is my birthday today. Not worth to celebrate.

I am still in Switzerland, my depart to Manado has been delayed, due to medical reasons; just another routine.
But we are OK..
Keep in touch.
Work is a relative term, Ivone. Yes, I’m busy. I really don’t consider my job ‘work’ as I do enjoy going to the uni;) Hope you come back soon!
