The unofficial date of departure has been set as 27 August. The Jakarta office wants us to arrive on the 28th with orientation of the 29th and 30th. This means I have a little over two weeks left to create mayhem in my native land. Of course, the mayhem is really created by the arrival of the departure date.
I’m off to Washington, DC for an orientation to the English Language Fellow Program. It will be my third orientation. To paraphrase Voltaire: If I don’t find something interesting, at least I will find something new. OK, perhaps that isn’t quite the right quotation to use. I’m really looking forward to meeting up with Indonesian Fellows from last year and those coming to the great archipelago this year.
I received an email from my houseboy this week. He informed me that there have been demonstrations in Makassar regarding the current Israeli-Hezbollah conflict. It was mentioned that they had some anti-American sentiment as the US supports Israel. Also, there were more demonstrations over internal matters.

With any luck there should be a nice DSL modem waiting for you.
Glad to see you’re back blogging and you’re writing shit like “got an email from my houseboy.”
Go to hell.
Anthony, I hope the modem works like a charm. It will be a riot. Scott, ain’t nothing wrong with having some domestic help to prevent a repeat of a burglary. You can probably find some cheap help in NYC;)
Tony,
I am going to spend more times here in Switzerland. Good luck with your trip back to Indonesia. I am sure you are safe as usual.
Meet you there.
Ivone, absolutely! I hope all is well in Switzerland and you’re keeping Fred out of trouble;)
