Pre-race Jittering

I’m relaxing at my friend Al’s house now. I went for registration for the sprint triathlon earlier today and a pre-race meeting. Hmmm. Well, the buoys were out in the water and, when I took a look at them, I thought, damn, I can’t believe I’m going to swim that. The race director said, y’all doing the sprint distance are probably looking out there and saying ‘that’s it.’

I got my swim cap and my t-shirt plus a bunch of racing related junk. As I stood in line, I’ll say that I have never felt this much out of place in a long while, or at least since I was standing in some semblance of a line in Indonesia. Many, but not all, of the people there were trim and bulging muscles from places I didn’t know there were muscles. Luckily, my goals are small and I’m not being judged against these people.

For now, I’ll just sit here and watch the Tigers v. Royals in their throwback uniforms. This should put me to sleep.
