Acquisition

Apa karreba? Ok, you’ve already learned how to say, ‘How are you?’ in Makassar language. The answer: Baji-baji ji. A little reduplication for the linguists ; )

Anyhow, my financial manager, my brother Jim, has acquired a 250cc motocycle on my behalf. It’s small, sure, but that’s the beauty of it. I caught the two-wheeler bug when I bought a 110cc in Manado. I don’t expect to take any long hauls on this two-wheeler, but I do expect to have some good times riding the lonely backroads of northern Michigan.

Only one r in kareba. The difference between single and geminate trills (as with all other consonants) is phonemic.
Also there’s a glottal stop in baji’.
    When will you ever learn??

Why do you not surprise me? Did I mention that I didn’t really take notice of that stuff in grad school. I’ll leave the specifics to you linguists…
