Midterm Madness

I have finally started trudging through the 80+ midterm exams that I have to ‘correct.’ I mulled over exactly how to evaluate such a large number of students on the lectures I have given and it frightened me. Luckily, the other Fellow from Makassar came to my rescue. The only question on my midterm was: What have you learned in this course so far? I would be frightened to know what fluent students would be able to write about this but the real pain/fun started when I started reading these midterms.

Below are a few of my favorites; I am transcribing the answers verbatim.

Student X (partial)
I have learned much about grammar and I have learned how to spell with right because the teacher is native speaker, so I’m very

Glad to heard his spoke.

Student Y (full)
I’ve learned how to be a good teacher, w/ a fast or slow method. Such as grammar, speaking, reading, listening and writing to be the subject. For teach the student’s we must use the simple way for make them understand. Usually, a visual representation by using a tools and practice make some an example in front of the class, it’s more effective than we just only read and read.

Like usuall, student’s has always a problem w/ grammar. They always make some mistake, like error correction, change the tenses etc. So, w/ this class we can be the next best teacher to make all the people in the world can know English languages well.

Finally, technology has finally hit a speed bump. My optical drive has somehow acquired a foreign body with some type of adhesive that is marring all the VCDs & DVDs that I insert into it. I’m currently looking at the options and hope I can get this resolved soon. I may have to go incommunicado to do it though. Yikes!
