an entry somewhere else

I talked with my overlord last week and got some news. It looks like my contract will be renewed; it also looks like that I will not be able to return to this city for work. Mixed blessings at best. Anyhow, I have first crack at a posting in Samarinda, East Kalimantan, the island of Borneo. The overlord reported that it was a bit remote. Remote being a two hour ride to the airport, a population of 600,000, and a good starting point for trekking into the center of the island. I was the only one offered this post and told that if I didn’t take it, they probably wouldn’t get a Fellow. I guess he figures me for a hardy bugger. The week before I was hoping for a post on Borneo. A couple days ago I was sure I didn’t want it. Today, I’m leaning in favor. All this may be tipped one way or the other by an ‘official’ ie reimbursable trip to Samarinda for scouting purposes. I’m not sure how far along this trip will be but I’m looking forward to it. Borneo!
